I received one of the most meaningful surprises this Father’s Day — a special feature story by Sin Chew Daily Malaysia, written by reporter Li Jiamin (李佳湄). 🌏 How It All Started

My name is Alan, a Malaysian who unexpectedly found a new home — and new purpose — in Vietnam.What started as a simple adventure soon turned into a new chapter of life: I met my wife here, started a family, and eventually built a business that connects travelers from around the world to the beauty of Vietnam.

In 2015, we founded Mavi Travels (formerly Mavi Travel Vietnam).The name MAVI is meaningful to us — it’s a combination of “MA” (Malaysia) and “VI” (Vietnam), symbolizing our story and the bond between two countries that shaped my life.

Earlier this year, Sin Chew reporter Li Jiamin visited Vietnam as part of a Malaysian business delegation. She reached out to me for an interview — and honestly, at first I thought it might be a scam!But after meeting her and reading her thoughtful write-up, I was truly impressed by her professionalism and sincerity.

According to Vietnam’s Tourism Board data, foreign visitors have been steadily increasing. Many travelers today prefer personalized and flexible travel styles instead of traditional big group tours — something we specialize in.

And yes, Chinese-speaking travelers now make up a large portion of Vietnam’s inbound tourism, making up roughly 80% of my customer base.
